GANGTOK, 08 Oct: After participating in the 18th East Zone National Kho-Kho Championship 2013 held at Dhanbad in Jharkhand from 02 to 05 September the Sikkim Junior Kho-Kho teams for Boys and Girls have left for Solan in Himachal Pradesh to participate in the 33rd National Championship being held there from 07 to 11 October, 2013 being organized by the Himachal Pradesh Kho-Kho Association.
A press release informs that the team has players selected from the schools in South and East Districts, after rigorous coaching camps held at Namchi and Pakyong public schools with the personal initiative and interest taken by the Principals and Teachers of these schools. Each team is composed of 12 players with a Coach and Manager.
The Girls team has Yangchen Bhutia, Dipika Mishra, Saroja Gurung, Lakina Rai, Subhaksha Tiwari, Sandhya Pradhan, Manjila Subba, Pamila Bhutia, Eden Tamang, Sonam Doma Bhutia, Deewangla Bhutia and Shivani Jaishwal along with Coach cum Official Anup Chakravarty and Mcdonald Pradhan.
Boys team has Navraj Chetri, Tikaram Sharma, Dawa Serpa, Tarbong Lepcha, Mayel Lepcha, Rinzing Lepcha, Swarnadeep Chetri, Benay Pokhrel, Basant Sharma, Ugyen Lepch, Rudra Kumar Chetri, Yangden Tamang along with Coach Pijush Sarka and Manager Ramesh Subba.
The Association has expressed gratitude to all the schools in the state for their keenness to develop sports in their schools which is a great encouragement to the youths.
“Due to paucity of funds and absence of sponsors in the state, the Association has not been able to perform its responsibilities as expected which is regretted. We hope to improve the responsibilities in the days to come with greater support from the authorities and generous donors / sponsors”, the release states.
