GANGTOK, 07 Oct: Phurzang Lepcha has informed that his candidature for election to the post of chairman of All Sikkim Government Employees Association [C&D] has been upheld by the Civil Court. In a press release, Mr Lepcha has stated that he is entitled to contest the election for the post of the chairman of the association and his candidature should be accepted. The order also directs the association to conduct fresh election after considering the candidature of Mr Lepcha.
Mr Lepcha informs that the election was scheduled to be held in April 2011 but with the cancellation of his candidature in an unconstitutional way he took the matter to court, which had issued a stay order on the election process of the organization. He further adds that during this period the organization has been looked after by Narsing Rai.
Informing that the election of the organization will be held on 24 November later this year, he has urged the government employees to take the membership of the organization at the earliest. The last date to take or renew membership would be 02 November, it is further informed.
It may be informed that another candidate CB Rai had staked claim to the same post and had also claimed to have been accepted as president of the association in a ceremony held on 25 September.
