Poklok-Denchung celebrates RTI Week

GANGTOK, 07 Oct: A Special Gram Sabha was held at Nandugaon Government Secondary School Playground under 34 Poklok Denchung GPU, South Sikkim today under the chairmanship of Poklok Denchung GPU President, Gyalpo Lepcha.
The Sabha was attended by the Panchayat Presidents, Vice Presidents, Panchayat members of Poklok Denchung GPU, Tinik Chisopani GPU and Salghari GPU, Line department representatives, gram planning forum members, development committee members, Teachers and Students of Nandugaon Government Secondary School, Bharat Nirman Volunteers and the local citizens.
As per a press release, the Gram Sabha was held to mark the eighth anniversary of the RTI Act and RTI Act week which was organized in association with the Sikkim Information Commission represented by Secretary, LM Pradhan, ADC, West cum Nodal Officer RTI, Bhim Thatal, Deputy Secretary, Pema Doma Mukhia, Law Officer, Tshering Choden Bhutia and Gram Vikash Adhikari, Jorethang, Deepak Rai.
The Secretary, SIC read out the message of the Chairman, Sikkim Information Commission and ADC, West conducted the technical session on RTI. The Sabha was also addressed by Deputy Secretary, Ms Bhutia, Law Officer, Ms Choden and Office Superintendent of SIC, Phurba Sherpa on respective topics.
In his address, GVK, Mr Rai appealed to the gathering to understand the significance of the Right to Information Act 2005. He also informed all the Panchayat members and local citizens about the draft publication of Socio Economic and Cast Census 2011, finalization of REDRH and CMRHM beneficiaries, visit of Ministry of Planning Commission team to see MGNREGA works under Jorethang BAC on 17 October, flow of new RWSS works under NRDWP, proposal of shifting of BAC from Jorethang to 6th Mile Samseybong, and need to conduct the social population census of Jogi Community under Tinik Chisopani GPU, etc. He also thanked all the Panchayat members for their coordination and support given to the Gram Vikash Kendra in carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities.
Panchayat President, Gyalpo Lepcha, in his address, thanked the Secretary, SIC for having chosen Poklok Denchung GPU for the program and also thanked the entire team, local citizens for their active participation.
Similar Gram Sabha to celebrate the RTI week was also held at Lower Fambong under Daramdin GVK, West Sikkim on 06 October which was attended by the Panchayat President as chief guest and participated by more than 150 people. Secretary, SIC, LM Pradhan has been leading his team of officers for the series of programmes starting from Lower Fambong on 06 October to conclude at Martam GPU on 09 October, the release informs.
