GANGTOK, 10 Oct: A case of sexual assault on a woman has been reported in South Sikkim on Wednesday. The accused, Raju Tamang of Nepal, currently residing in South Sikkim, entered the victim’s house when she was alone at home and raped her. As the victim’s house is located in an isolated place there was no one around at the time and the accused managed to escape.
An alert has been flashed to all OCs and ICs and a police team deployed for search. A case under section 342/376 [punishment for wrongful confinement and punishment for rape] of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against him at the Melli Police Station and the case is under investigation.
