Promising sportsperson drowns in Teesta

GANGTOK, 06 Oct: Bijay Rai, son of Jai Bahadur Rai of Ralong, West Pendam, was swept away by the Teesta on 27 September 2013. The 17 year old student of Central Pendam Senior Secondary School was a promising footballer, and his death is being mourned by all in the area. What has made the trauma more heart-rending for the family is that his body has not been recovered thus far. Bijay had represented Sikkim in the 22nd Sub Junior National Kho-Kho Championship in 2011 and the 28th National Sub Junior Taekwondo Championship 2010. He was one of the best footballers of West Pendam and he had in played many tournaments representing many local clubs, informs Karma Zigmee Bhutia of the GVS Football Academy.
