BRO to restore Old Rangchang Bridge for traffic

Repair work gets underway on the old Rangchang bridge

GANGTOK, 20 Dec: The top priority of the Border Roads Organisation, under which is the Garrison Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) falls, is to restore connectivity to North Sikkim though Singtam via Dikchu as it is a vital link for the locals as well as power developers and not least the army.

BRO representatives speaking to NOW! stated that they would try and get the old Rangchang Bridge ready for light vehicles by this evening or by Wednesday latest. The old bridge will obviously not permit heavy vehicles to ply over it, however, as BRO representatives stated, the bridge would permit 24R or up to 30 tonne vehicles which would also include the small trucks.
It was informed that restoring the old Hamilton bridge, as it is called, was the first priority of BRO in order to restore connectivity. BRO engineers and other personnel are informed to be engaged in getting the old bridge in working condition at present.
