‘Kaash…!’ goes on the floors, to hit the stage on 05 Jan


GANGTOK, 19 Dec: The muhurat of a Nepali play, Kaash…!, was held at the Press Club of Sikkim here today. The play is being presented by the Sikkim Amateur Theatre and rehearsals are scheduled to begin from 05 January next year.

Kaash is being produced by CP Giri and is to be directed by Hemant ‘Trishit’. The music will be given by Subodh Yonzon while Rajen Gurung will look after the overall arrangement of the play.
The muhurat had Special Secretary, Chief Minister’s Secretariat, DR Nepal, as the chief guest, while well-known artists from Darjeeling, Menuka Pradhan, Jiwan Gurung, Deoraj Sherpa and Kiran Waiba along with Sikkimese artist, TB Rai, were present as the guests of honour.
The Director, Mr Trishit, informed that the play will feature nine artists from Gangtok and Namchi and will be of 2 hours duration. He further informed that the play also has 3 songs including the title song, a lok dohori and a concluding song.
In his address, Mr Nepal mentioned that theatre is an important and effective medium to inform people and showcase different issues of the society. He mentioned that Nepali theatre also has a long history and has been inspiring and encouraging the society on different issues from time to time.
He added that plays were also found in Sikkim’s history and most of them were written and performed in rural Sikkim.
Stating that with the introduction of other mediums theatre has seen a decline, he stressed on making the play of interest to today’s audience. He also conveyed his best wishes to the whole team of the play.
Likewise, other guests also highlighted that the popularity of theatre has been declining in recent times and incorporating interesting elements in theatre is required to attract the modern audience. They stressed that Sikkim and Darjeeling need to connect through culture and theatre can play a role in bridging the gap between the two places.
On the occasion, a dialogue from the play was presented by artist, Rupa Tamang and title song of the play sung by Kiran Waiba was also presented. Earlier, the function had started with the welcome address by SAT working president, Chunnilall Ghimirey.
