Rolu Picnic Organising Committee to hold peace prayers for earthquake victims this year


GANGTOK, 18 Dec: The Rolu Picnic Organizing Committee has decided to hold “Universal Prayers” at Rolu near Jorethang on 21 Dec this year. This was decided at a meeting held today under the chairmanship of RK Waling at Jorethang. A special prayer programme will be organized for the victims of the 18 Sept earthquake and for the welfare of the general public.

A press release issued jointly by Dhurba Sharma, Milan Rai, RK Waling, Ugen Namgyal Bhutia, Peter Lepcha and Tashi Tamang of the committee informs that on 21 Dec [to mark the anniversary of the Rolu Picnic of 2009], a prayer programme will be conducted in Rolu following Hindu rituals with prayers offered for the future wellbeing of Sikkim.
On 28 Dec prayers will be offered in a Christian manner in Jorethang for the earthquake victims followed by a prayer ceremony at Sri Badam Monastery to pray for the earthquake victims and to seek protection from such calamities in the future, the release informs.
The organizing committee has appealed to all to participate in the prayers.
