School students arrested for assault on Head Constable


NAMCHI, 16 Dec: In a disturbing case of assault, the very guardians of law came under attack in Namchi yesterday. What is worse, the perpetrators of the violence were school students, both of whom were taken into custody today.

The two accused, Pradeep Tamang and Setam Rai, both enrolled at a school here, were picked up today and have reportedly also been positively identified by the victim.
SP South, Manoj Tiwari informed that Head Constable, Krishna Bdr. Rai who was guarding under-trial prisoners at the Namchi Police Station had gone to Namchi Bazaar to buy some medicines last evening at around 8:30 p.m. when he was attacked by the duo at Central Park here.
The SP informs that the Head Constable suffered minor injuries on his face and is under medical supervision at present. The attackers did not use any weapons. Until they were identified, there was a suspicion that the accused were habitual substance abusers.
The Head Constable, it is informed, had also alleged that the attackers had snatched away his mobile phone as well. This was reportedly recovered from the accused duo today.
The Police has registered the case under Section 353, 341, 334 and 329 of the IPC against the accused. On the motive behind this attack, the SP said that it could be a case of revenge by past offenders.
