Anand Lama seeks to move petition against hydel projects to Supreme Court


GANGTOK, 15 Dec: Anand Lama of Pani House, Deorali, has taken his petition against all hydro power projects in the State awarded to private developers, to the Supreme Court. The petition was initially filed in the High Court of Sikkim, but the petitioner has now got it transferred to the apex court. The tentative date for the admission hearing of the petition in apex court is scheduled for 03 February next.

Speaking on behalf of the petitioner, who is presently in New Delhi, Tekendra Sharma, an associate, today informed that the petition was filed around 3 months back in the Sikkim High Court; it had even come up for hearing once but now the petitioner has applied for transfer of the case to the Supreme Court of India.
The petition is mainly against the awarding of the around 14 hydel projects in the State to private developers. Most of the material of the petition has been acquired through the Right to Information Act from the Sikkim Power Development Corporation and Power Department and alleges a scam of around Rs.10,000 crore in the awarding of the projects. It alleges various irregularities in the awarding of the projects by the state government.
