GANGTOK, 20 May: In his capacity as president, Sikkim Democratic Front, Pawan Chamling submitted the resolution passed by the newly elected Legislators of the party for the Ninth Sikkim Legislative Assembly to the Governor, Shriniwas Patil, at Raj Bhavan today.
The resolution has unanimously elected Mr. Chamling as the Leader of the House and he has accordingly put forward his claim to form the next Government, informs a press release from Raj Bhawan.
Exercising the powers vested in him under Article 164 of the Constitution of India, the Governor requested Mr. Chamling to speedily constitute the Council of Ministers to aid and advise the Governor in exercise of his functions in consonance with the provisions of the Constitution.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new Council of Ministers is scheduled to be held at 10.15 a.m. on Wednesday, 21 May in Ashirvad Hall, Raj Bhavan.
Earlier in the day, the Governor on recommendation of the Council of Ministers dissolved the 8th Sikkim Legislative Assembly under provisions of Article 174(2)(b) of the Constitution of India, the release mentions.
