GANGTOK, 23 May: On the
auspicious occasion of Sakewa, the Governor of Sikkim, Shriniwas Patil and
First Lady Rajanidevi Patil have extended heartiest greetings to the people of
Sikkim.
The Governor has said, “Sakewa
symbolises the worship of Mother Nature as the ultimate source of life and
protector of mankind. The reverence and worship of nature, which is inherent in
the life and culture of Sikkimese people is instrumental in the preservation of
rich ecology and biodiversity that we are proud to possess.
The worship of mother
nature has become all the more relevant at a time when the world is coping with
the repercussions of overall degradation in the environment and quality of
ecosystem. There is widespread threat of depletion of biodiversity by way of
extinction of various species of flora and fauna.
The festival of Sakewa
signifies the wisdom that our ancestors intended to pass on to the subsequent
generations as a tradition in the quest to protect our environment, providing
us the way of living in perfect harmony with nature.
On this propitious
occasion, let us commit ourselves to promote and strengthen this tradition for
the well being of all.”
The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pawan Chamling and Smt
Tika Maya Chamling have also extended their warm greetings and best wishes to
the people of Sikkim on the auspicious occasion of Sakewa.
