GANGTOK, 21 May: The Black Cat Division organised a Cycling cum Trekking Expedition to Kanchenjunga Base to spread the message of ecological conservation. It was flagged off from Tashi View Point today by Maj Gen YVK Mohan, SM, General Officer Commanding, Black Cat Division.
A press release informs that the expedition will cover a total distance of more than 400 km on cycle and trek along Ravangla, Yuksom, Gyalshing and Namchi. The troops will interact with the villagers, tourists and taxi operators and distribute leaflets to spread awareness about ecological preservation.
The team will also deliver informative lectures at places, for which District Welfare Officers have also extended their assistance. During the expedition, the team will interact with Kanchenjunga Conservation Committee and bring back non bio-degradable waste from the Kanchenjunga Base Camp for proper disposal, the release mentions.
The expedition is part of the army’s ecological campaign which commenced in January this year.
