GANGTOK, 22 Sept: NHPC cleared roads in Lower Dzongu between Phedang to Ringkhola which had been totally cut off due to the Sunday earthquake that ripped through Sikkim on 18 September, informs a press release.
The residents of this area, who have suffered the brunt of this earthquake were stranded in their villages with massive landslides blocking all roads and were not able to commute even to the local market to get their basic commodities, the release states.
The release further informs that the NHPC unit of Teesta HEP Stage-IV took the initiative to clear the roads between Phedang and Hee-Gyathang village by deploying its machinery and manpower. After working round the clock for 48 hours, the road between Phedang and Hee-Gyathang was cleared providing relief to the villagers after 4 gruesome days.
Chief Engineer, Teesta-IV HEP, AK Chaudhary, has assured assistance and support in every possible way to the State Government machinery to overcome all challenges thrust on the people of Sikkim due this major earthquake, the release adds.
