All NHPC structures unaffected by earthquake, organization assures


GANGTOK, 23 Sept: Although the Sunday earthquake has extensively damaged residential private properties of local villages, small towns, adjoining roads and communication system, the major civil structures i.e. Dam and Power House of Teesta-V Power Station and Rangit Power Station in Sikkim, including projects under-construction like Teesta Low Dam Project Stage-III and Teesta Low Dam Project Stage-IV in West Bengal, are completely safe and no damages have been caused, assures an NHPC press release.

In light of the recent unfavorable news being spread about the safety of NHPC Dams located in the State of Sikkim, the release clarifies that all the major components of both Rangit Power Station, Hingdam, South Sikkim and Teesta-V Power Station, Balutar, East Sikkim are completely safe and free from damages and both the Power Stations have been in operation since the night of the earthquake, after 6-7 hrs of the incident.
There has been no casualty or injury to any employee of NHPC in any of the Projects under construction or Power Station located in the State of West Bengal and Sikkim, the release adds.
“It is reiterated that both Dam structures at Teesta-V Power Station, Dikchu and Rangit Power Station, Hingdam are completely safe and there is no reason to panic on presumption of catastrophe of any kind. We request all to keep away from any rumors being spread regarding the safety of the structure of NHPC Projects”, the release further appeals.
