Cops appeal people against forwarding SMSes spreading false news

GANGTOK, 23 Sept: The Superintendent of Police [East] Dr. MS Tuli and Officer in-Charge, Sadar Police Station, Tshering Sherpa have appealed to the people of Gangtok not to entertain the false and baseless SMSes being circulated in town regarding the earthquake that struck the State on 18 September.

“We appeal to the people not to circulate or forward false SMSes regarding the earthquake, such as ‘there will be another earthquake’, ‘the Gurudongmar lake is about to burst’, ‘a volcano is about to erupt in North Sikkim’, etc, which are being circulated and forwarded by miscreants to create panic in the minds of the people,” appealed the SP [East].
These SMSs are all baseless and false and are being forwarded by people just to terrify and put fear in the minds of people, he added.
“It is the advice of the police to the people not to listen to these rumors and not to forward these messages to family and friends as this will only cause more fright in their minds,” he said and added that the police was working to nab the main culprits behind these unfounded messages.
