Eccl Deptt seeks details on damages suffered by religious institutions


GANGTOK, 20 Sept [IPR]: The earthquake of 18 September 2011 has caused extensive damage to life and property in the State, including religious institutions, according to a press release received from Ecclesiastical Department.
The Department has requested Duchi/ Committee members of all religious institutions in the State to contact officials at the Ecclesiastical Affairs Department with any information regarding damages caused to their respective religious institutions.
Sikkim’s premiere monasteries Pemayangste and Tashiding have reported extensive damage as has the Char Dhaam project under construction at Solophok. Reports also indicate that damages have been suffered at Gangtok’s Enchey Monastery and also at Ringhem Monastery above Mangan. Details are still awaited on the status of other religious institutions across the state, many of which remain inaccessible from Sikkim at present.
