GANGTOK, 06 May [IPR]: The State Advisory Committee of Health Care Human Service and Family Welfare Department convened a meeting in the chamber of DG-cum-Secretary to discuss implementation of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act in Sikkim.
The consultation meeting was chaired by the DG-cum-Secretary, Health, Dr. K. Bhandari, and attended by Principal Director Dr. V. Singhi, HoD/ OBG Dr. T. Yethenpa, Dr. R.N. Deokota, Chief Medical Officers from East, South and North districts, Additional Director Dr. S. Lama, DRCHO West, Dr. N. Shenga, Dr. Ruth Yunzon, Joint Director from IPR Department, Parinita Lama and other health officials.
During the meeting, issues like reporting format for minutes of the meeting, regular monitoring and supervision, regular review report and Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) were discussed. The financial status of all districts was also highlighted in the programme. All the participants gave their valuable inputs.
Addressing the meeting DG-cum-Secretary Dr. Bhandari stressed on the roles and responsibility of health officials for the implementation of PC & PNDT Act in the state. The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act has to be implemented strictly to avoid sex selective abortion, he said. It was informed during the meeting that the Ultrasound machine should get registered from concerned authority and only authorized persons can conduct the ultrasound.
During the programme, a power point presentation on the status of PC & PNDT Act was also made by the concerned nodal officer Dr. Namita Subba. Earlier the programme began with the welcome address and concluded with the vote of thanks by SAA (PC & PNDT) Dr. N. Shenga.
