GANGTOK, 30 Sept: Sikkim Tamang Buddhist Association [STBA] held a meeting regarding the formation of its block committee and other activities being carried out by the ad-hoc committee at Dokeythang, Gyalshing Sub-Division on 29 September.
A press release informs that on the day, STBA ad-hoc committee handed over the Buddhist Religious instrument set gifted by the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling to the Block committee of STBA Yangtey village, under Yangtey GPU. Members of the block committee and the people of village thanked the Chief Minister for his generous contribution. The STBA ad-hoc committee also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister.
The block committee under Dokeythang GPU was formed on the day for carrying out welfare activities in the interest of the community. The committee members also handed over cash amount of Rs 5700 to an MDR TB patient. The president announced the setting up of knitting and tailoring centre at Tikjuk under the supervision of Chandra Maya Yonzon for the welfare of all members of the community. The meeting thanked the Area MLA, PL Subba, for extending his support in organizing the meeting and also thanked the Zilla Panchayat and Gram Panchayat members, including former Panchayat of the area for their support in making the event successful.
MK Tamang emphasized on the conduct of re-election of STBA as per the constitution in a democratic way by November 2013 with a membership drive prior to the election. He emphasized that the election has to be held in a transparent manner involving all Tamangs above 18 years of age district-wise under the ad-hoc committee. He also focused on quality construction of the Tamang Bhawan coming up at Syari, Gangtok.
