GANGTOK, 29 Sept: Governor Shriniwas Patil felicitated two karate players of the state on Saturday in a special ceremony held at Raj Bhawan.
A press release from Raj Bhawan informs that the Governor felicitated Bhim Bahadur Subba, silver medalist at the International Karate Championship in Colombo held in October 2012 and Sushmita Rai, silver medalist at National Karate Championship held at New Delhi this month. The sportspersons were also accompanied by Bidhan Ballav Subba [Coach cum general secretary of Sikkim State Karate Do Association].
On the occasion, Bidhan Ballav Subba briefed the Governor about the activities of the Association and the success achieved by Sikkimese martial artists in the two tournaments. Forthcoming participation by the Association in upcoming tournaments was also discussed.
The Governor congratulated the silver medalists for bringing glory and recognition to the State. He also enquired about the problems and challenges being faced by the players and the Association. He assured all possible help and expressed his best wishes to the sportsmen for their future endeavours, the release mentions.
The delegation on behalf of the Association expressed their gratitude to the Governor for his encouragement and for sparing his valuable time.
