MANGAN, 04 Oct: In order to deliver speedy justice and for the convenience of the public of North Sikkim, the High Court of Sikkim has decided to establish a District and Sessions Court in the district.
With regard to this, an inspection was conducted to determine the feasibility of the said establishment by a high level team of the High Court of Sikkim on Thursday.
The team comprised of Judge, High Court of Sikkim-cum-Executive Chairman, Sikkim State Legal Service Authority, Justice SP Wangdi, Additional Registrar, High Court of Sikkim, Neena Kunwar, District and Sessions Judge, North, JB Rai, Judicial Magistrate, North, Binoy Sharma, District Magistrate, North, CP Dhakal, Superintendent of Police, North, RN Yadav and Bikash Sharma [High Court of Sikkim] visited the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, (DCDRF) Mangan, where the district and sessions court will be established. Deputy Director, DCDRF, North, Tara Gurung and Assistant Controller, Mahesh Sharma were also present during the visit.
It is learnt that after the appointment of the District and Sessions Judge for North district the legal proceedings will be conducted in DCDRF, Mangan instead of Gangtok and the court shall execute twice in a month.
On the arrival of Justice Wangdi in Mangan, the IRB personnel accorded guard of honor at the Power Guest House and after the inspection, the Justice also visited Alternative Dispute Redressal/Resolution Centre and Judicial Magistrate Court at Pentok. He enquired about all the available facilities of the Mediation Centre and Lok Adalat and advised the JM, North to install the latest software such as e-filing etc in the court. He asked the officials of the Judicial Magistrate Court to make a list of existing problems and submit it. Justice Wangdi also asked DM, North to make arrangements for the residential quarters for the District and Sessions Judge to be appointed.
