NAMCHI, 03 Oct: Among many operational home stays under South Sikkim Tourism Development Society [SSTDS], in South District, the Maniram Village Tourism Society was presented with the State Award for being the best home stay tourist destination in South Sikkim.
The award was presented on the occasion of World Tourism Day on 29 September at Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok by the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling. On the occasion South Sikkim Tourism Development Society which is a guardian body of all the tourism societies in the District also received the ‘Best Tourism Society Award’ in the State.
The general secretary of SSTDS, Himal Tamang expressed his happiness for both the awards. SSTDS and Maniram Village Tourism have expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister and the state government for the encouragement which they said would further motivate and help them as well as other similar home stays to perform well and excel in the field of tourism in Sikkim.
Mr Tamang informed that the state government through the Tourism Department has provided benefits to interested individuals involved in village tourism and its promotion by providing a helping hand in home stay endorsement wherein they are provided with benefits to construct more rooms and space. Each beneficiary can now construct two rooms with attached bathroom and toilet amounting to Rs 7 lakh. At present, 11 beneficiaries have been granted the benefit and the construction has already started in Maniram village to further boost Maniram Village Tourism, he informed.
