GANGTOK, 04 Oct: The ‘7th Annual College Week’’ of the College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology [CAEPHT], Ranipool, Central Agricultural University began on Thursday at the college premises.
The annual sports extravaganza will continue till 09 October where boys and girls grouped into two houses [Sir Vishveswaraya House and Prof. Masan House] will be participating in 55 events [indoor and outdoor], which include athletics [100 m, 200 m, 400 m], discus throw, shot put, long jump, badminton, volleyball, football, chess and many others. Competitions on art and literary events [essay writing, extempore debate, spot painting etc], are also to be organized for the students of the college.
The weeklong event was inaugurated by the chief guest, Vice Principal of Biraspati Parasai Higher Secondary School, Ranipool, J Sen.
The chief guest highlighted about the importance of sports for students and youth. Dean for the College, Dr. PK Srivastava chaired the inaugural meeting. He welcomed the participants with the message that the college week should be celebrated in the spirit of sports.
Further adding that participation is more important than winning, he expressed hope that the students would better their performance in this year’s competition.
The participants of both the houses took oath to maintain discipline and demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship. On the first day, 100 m and 200 m race, shot put, discus throw and javelin throws for boys and girls were conducted as well.
During the inaugural function, students, faculty members, including staff of the college were also present.
