GANGTOK, 24 Oct: An overloaded Maruti Van met with an accident injuring all 10 occupants at Chota-Singtam. The accident took place at around 2:20 p.m. on Sunday when the taxi van, SK-04-9721, was on its way to Assam Lingzey from Chota Singtam.
As per reports, the vehicle was negotiating a steep incline when it is believed to have lost traction and rolled downhill about 250 feet off the road. Police reports suggest that the accident occurred due to overloading as there were more passengers than is legally permissible. Among the 10 occupants, including the driver, two are reported to be infants. All were evacuated to the Central Referral Hospital in Gangtok. The driver, Saroj Subba, is due to be arrested.
