Alumni felicitates Melli Gumpa School on being adjudged best performing school

GANGTOK, 21 Oct: The alumni association of Melli Gumpa Secondary School, in association with Melli Dara Paiyong GPU, organized a felicitation programme at the CM Pradhan Auditorium at Melli Dara to felicitate Melli Gumpa Secondary School, South Sikkim, for its achievement as the “Best Performing School” among the government schools in the state for the year 2011.
The programme, which had MLA, Tulsi D Rai as the chief guest, began with a welcome address by Vice president of the alumni association, JN Sharma, followed by an address by president of the association, MB Tamang.
The headmaster of Melli Gumpa Secondary School, Sekhar C Chettri, in his speech said that such felicitation would recharge the teachers to work more vigorously in the coming days. He also spoke to the students on the high level of competition in the present world and requested parents to cooperate in the overall development of students.
The credit for achieving this milestone as a “Best Performing School” goes to all his colleagues, concerned area MLA, gram Panchayat, students and their guardians, he asserted. He also placed some demands pertaining to the school before the chief guest.
On the occasion, the 22- Melli Dara Paiyong GPU gave away some teaching aid materials to two schools under this unit. Eleven (11) white boards, 1 LCD TV & One (1) DVD player were given to Melli Gumpa Secondary School. One (1) LCD TV & One (1) DVD player were given to Begani Primary School, Lower Paiyong.
The GPU also provided Two(2) Digital Blood Pressure Measuring equipment to each ASHA worker of Melli Gumpa & Kerabari. The president of 22-Melli Dara Paiyong GPU, Ganesh K Rai, assured to provide all possible help to the school so that the children may get better education and become an asset for the society and country as a whole.
He also urged students to cooperate with their teachers to make the school the best school in every respect. Former MLA (Melli Constituency), MP Sharma and former Principal Secretary (Agri ), S Lama, who is also an alumni of the school, shared their views and experiences with those present today.
The chief guest, in her address, emphasized on the need for quality education in the state. Praising the teachers for their efforts, she urged them to guide those on the wrong path She further added that a good education is only possible in a positive environment of a school, family and a society.
She also assured to fulfill the demands placed by the school’s headmaster. NT Tamang and Kumari Pradhan, teachers of MGSS along with the guardians, also shared their experiences with the students and others present.
The function was also attended by Zilla Panchayat member, Farwanti Tamang, all Panchayats of the GPU, teachers from all the feeder schools of Melli Gumpa Secondary School and the general public.
