IDIA organises seminar on legal education


GANGTOK, 23 Oct: Students from different schools and Government Law College participated in the sensitization and career-counseling programme organized by Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education [IDIA] yesterday, here at the Paljor Stadium Indoor gymnasium hall.

Interested students were also registered for an IDIA National Aptitude Test scheduled to be held on 06 November in the State with the selected students being provided free coaching in Kolkata for the Common Law Admission Test [CLAT]. Those qualifying in the CLAT will be given scholarship to study law, BA LLB [Hons], at the National Law School.
HRDD Minister, NK Pradhan, present as the chief guest, in his address welcomed the IDIA initiative to prepare Sikkim aspirants better in their bid to secure admission into the National Law School.
He accepted that many of the students were still not serious and continued without set goals in life. He stressed that students should have determination in order to become successful.
Team leader North-East Chapter, Jwala D Thapa, team leader Sikkim Chapter, Lekden T Basi, and LLM 2nd year student of the National Law School, Kolkata, Daffne Tamang shared information about IDIA, National Law School and CLET.
In the technical session, Dr Doma Bhutia, Tashi Rapden Barfungpa, Prof Chewang Dorjee Lama, Dr B Pandey and other members from the judiciary fraternity spoke to the students on different subjects in law informing them about various scopes and opportunities in law.

  1. The initiative of IDIA is great. But my question whether the financial condition of that student, who is qualifying CLAT, will be under consideration or not? Next why IDIA is not motivating students to join in BAR to serve the judiciary.
