GANGTOK, 24 Oct: A meeting of North East India Committee On Relief & Development, [NEICORD] and United Christian Welfare Society of Sikkim [UCWSS] was held in Gangtok on 22 October to take stock of the earthquake relief related activities and to jointly assess what further activities could be taken up jointly in the future to address such emergency situations, informs a press release.
The meeting was chaired by NEICORD executive director, Rev Dr. HM Songate.
The UCWSS assured NEICORD that for future relief activities, it would coordinate more effectively to build better strategies to reach out to affected people. It also assured to remain in contact and jointly conduct more training and print information material that could help people suffering trauma and stress.
NEICORD members have proceeded to Mangan to take stock of the on-going relief activities and find out what other measures need to be taken in the coming days, the release mentions. They have also agreed to coordinate all future activities in Sikkim with UCWSS.
Recently, NEICORD was involved in relief measures in North Sikkim and coordinated a training on Trauma Care and Counseling in collaboration with UCWSS to build human capital in Sikkim to address such emergency situations, the release adds. The Development Agencies Coordination Alliance, a consortium of Christian relief organizations DC, EFICOR, EHA and NEICORD with the assistance of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, had organized this training for 27 participants.
