GANGTOK, 12 May: Menlha Dotho & Spa at the Chumbi Mountain Retreat has been listed among the top spas in India in the luxury issue ‘Luxe’ of the Outlook Traveller magazine.
A press release informs that last month the Chumbi Mountain Retreat at Pelling had been listed at Number 6 among the twenty top places to visit in India this summer by the Outlook Traveller. Luxe, the luxury issue of the same magazine has again listed the spa of the Chumbi Mountain Retreat among the top spas in India alongside world renowned spas like Ananda in the Himalayas, Dusit Devrana, Kaya kalp, and the Oberoi spas.
The magazine writes “one of our favorite finds in the eastern Himalayas, Chumbi offers something very unique...”
The release mentions that the spa has revived the ancient treatment of Dotho which is very unique to Sikkim and Bhutan. The process involves heating river boulders and raising the temperature of the water. Tangtse and Puezue herbs are soaked to cure many ailments aches and pains.
The spa which is almost 10000 sq ft in area has an eight-feet high Buddha statue as its centerpiece. It has a 26x16 feet indoor heated pool. The spa also houses a fully equipped gym with all imported equipment. There are a series of yoga and meditation huts to lend beauty to the landscape. Separate steam and sauna rooms are provided for ladies and gentlemen with large change rooms.
The Spa also offers various massage treatments in their aesthetically designed treatment rooms. The Lonely Planet magazine has done an extensive feature in their May issue listing the Retreat among the “5 Easy Trips” which includes Chopta-Tungnath trek in Uttarkhand, Pulau Langkawi in Malaysia, The Bison Resort in Karnataka and the Chumbi Mountain Retreat and Spa.
