GANGTOK, 23 Feb: The OBC Welfare Board meeting was convened on 20 February which was presided over by OBC Welfare Board, Chairman, Ashok Kumar Gurung.
A press release informs that the meeting was convened to review and discuss issues pertaining to the overall development of the OBC community in the State. Various schemes being implemented for the welfare of the OBCs with specific reference to the status of scholarship schemes, construction of OBC hostels and other educational, social and economic development programs were discussed at length.
The Board members stressed that schemes on agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and allied activities should be taken up on priority basis for the economic upliftment of the community, the release mentions.
It was resolved to request the government for provision of grants-in-aid fund for the OBC Welfare board. The Chairman also expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of some of the official Board members in the meeting, the release adds.
