1 caught impersonating Tax Officer


GANGTOK, 19 Feb: The Sikkim police has arrested a person of Kalimpong for duping businessmen in the east district towns of Rhenock and Rongli by posing as an official of the Commercial taxes division.
According to reports it was the Rhenock police which apprehended the accused, Passang Norbu Sherpa, known as Passang Chou, a 55 year old resident of Tirpai Bazaar, Kalimpong, West Bengal.
As per the reports, Passang had been impersonating as a Commercial Tax Officer of the Commercial Taxes Office at Labarbotey, West Bengal when he was picked up on 11 February. He had by then, collected some cash amount as ‘donation’ from a couple of business establishments at Rhenock bazaar. It is informed that Passang had collected Rs. 3000 each from the two establishments and at the time of his arrest the total amount of Rs. 6000 was recovered.
Earlier he had reportedly hired a Maruti van from Kalimpong and visited Rongli bazaar where again, impersonating as a Commercial Tax Officer of the Labarbotey office he collected money from various businessmen there. Most of those approached for ‘donations’ reportedly paid up as their trucks ply through Labarbotey regularly carrying goods.
