BJP-Sikkim to contribute to construction of Statue of Unity in Gujarat

PARTY TO COLLECT USED FARM IMPLEMENTS FROM ACROSS THE STATE
GANGTOK, 20 Aug: At a meeting held here today, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Sikkim, decided that Sikkim too would contribute towards the construction of the proposed 182 metre tall Statue of Unity, a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, to be constructed in Gujarat.
A BJP release informs that as per suggestions from the party at the centre it was decided that party cadre would fan out across the state and make appeals to farmers and other rural folk to contribute ploughshare tips and other used iron-made farm implements that would be melted and added to the ores collected from across the nation that would go into the making of the statue.
Among other important points discussed the local BJP unit also thrashed out details and a strategy related to the upcoming bye-election at Yangang-Rangang constituency. A final decision as to the candidate representing the party and other details will be declared only after the green light from the party high command at the centre, the release informs.
The Sikkim BJP will also be undertaking a mass membership drive, in both the urban and rural areas of, in accordance with the instructions of the new BJP president  at the centre Amit Shah. As per the instructions of the centre people all over the country may apply for membership of the BJP through the internet also. This membership, ‘e-membership’ as it has been dubbed will be free of cost. However those attaining membership through the earlier traditional method directly and personally will still have to pay the membership enrolment fee of five rupees.
Other points discussed were the matter of setting up of a state head office at Gangtok, as well as district offices at the district-level. Another important topic discussed was the setting up of office bearers at the district and ward levels.
