GANGTOK, 20 June: Kritika Rai and Siddharth Bhujel were felicitated by the Sikkim Table Tennis Association [STTA] and Sikkim Veteran Table Tennis Association (SVTTA) here in the capital on 18 June, informs a press release.
The Petroleum Sports Promotion Board selection trials were held on 04 -05 June at Ajmer, Rajasthan where Rai qualified in the Sub-junior category while Bhujel in the Cadet category, informed STTA President , CK Basnet at the programme.
“It was beyond our expectations, Kritika defeated some of the biggest states in the country to be one of the lucky few to get into the Petroleum Academy”, Mr Basnet expressed.
“This is a remarkable achievement for Sikkim Table Tennis Association where two of our Sikkim players got selected in the same year for the academy and might get to play in the Indian Team in the near future”, he added.
All the expenditure of the players will be born by the Academy right from pocket money to studying in one of the best public schools of Ajmer. STTA feels that this is a milestone for the state and in the field of Table Tennis, that a Sikkimese girl might be play for the country in the near future, the release informs.
15 years old Kritika Rai studying in Daffodil Academy till now, left on 18 June to join the Petroleum Academy at Ajmer. Kritika said that she was excited and looking forward to her departure where she will be giving her best to make the state proud, according to the release.
The meet was also addressed by the General Secretary of STTA, Karma Bhutia, and attended by the members of STTA and SVTTA and parents of the players.
