GANGTOK, 21 June: The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region [DoNER] has approved projects to the tune of Rs. 78.50 crore in the sectors of education, power and water resources in the state of Sikkim. The costs of the projects will be met from the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) fund administered by the Ministry, a DoNER Press release informs.
At the 94th Meeting of the NLCPR Committee held in New Delhi recently, Rs. 65 Crores was recommended for sanction of Augmentation of Namchi Water Supply in South Sikkim, Rs. 5.50 Crores for Providing toilets for Girls/Boys and School Staffs to 44 Nos. of School at the rate of Rs.2.60 lacs each and Rs.8 Crores for Modernization and Beautification of Distribution System with conversion of overhead transmission line with underground cable system in Jorethang Town, South Sikkim.
Minister of DoNER, BK Handique, said that steps were being taken to hasten the process of sanction to facilitate the early execution of projects under NLCPR.
