GANGTOK, 23 June: A district-level workshop-cum-awareness programme on Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan [PYKKA] was organised by the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs today at the Zilla Panchayat Bhawan here.
The programme was attended by Zilla Panchayat members along with Member Secretaries [block level] and Kridashree of east district under PYKKA scheme.
In the technical session, the SYA Joint Director, Doma Tshering Bhutia explained the PYKKA scheme, the role and responsibilities of the PYKKA committee, role and responsibility of Zilla Panchayat, member secretary and Kridashree.
She informed that because the reports on past PYKKA competitions had not included details filled up in the prescribed formats, department was facing problems in requisitioning funds from the Centre.
The programme has already been conducted for south district at Namchi on 16 June and then at Mangan for north district on 17 June.
Ms Bhutia urged the participants to always submit complete details and required information to the department in time. She further urged all concerned to maintain better coordination to ensure maximum participation of sportsperson from rural Sikkim.
She also urged panchayat members to play an active role in their area respective for the promotion of sports and games and to bring out rural talent by carrying-out result-oriented activities.
Likewise, Deputy Director [North/East], BB Rai, and Assistant Director, CL Rai, of SYA, explained the scheme and explained how to fill in the technical format of the competition.
Addressing the programme, the Zilla Adhyaksha said that the PYKKA scheme was very important to bring out the talent from rural areas.
He stressed that the panchayats, being the people’s representatives, have to be more serious in implementing the schemes in their respective area.
Mr Dawadi urged the panchayat members to encourage the youth of the area discover and excel in sports.
