RANGPO, 23 June: Rangpo, an upcoming educational and industrial hub, has been facing regular power cuts and internet connectivity problems for a while now. The power cuts are affecting the industries as well as local residents, entrepreneurs and students.
Half-yearly examinations have begun and hence it is the students who are bearing the brunt of the frequent power cuts.
Foreign tourists coming into the state are required to register at the Foreigners Registration Counter for which a photo copy of the passport and visa is needed. The lack of electricity causes unnecessary problems for the tourists at the very beginning of their journey into the state.
Local residents have approached the concerned authority a number of times regarding the matter but the problem remains unaddressed.
On the other hand, BSNL phone and internet connectivity in Rangpo is also in a sorry state. For the past two days, there has been no landline or internet connection here. This also hampers the smooth functioning of banks in the area.
As in the past, BSNL authorities have cited OFC cable thefts in different areas as the cause. [from SANJAY AGARWAL]
