GANGTOK, 24 June [IPR]: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling was present as chief guest for the Passing-Out Parade of Recruit Constables for India Reserve Battalion (IRB) on 24 June at Paljor Stadium.
302 recruits of the 3rd India Reserve Battalion include 24 drivers and 16 constables inducted on compassionate grounds. The CM was offered the Guard of Honour and the general salute by the Parade Commander, Sonam Gyastso Bhutia.
The battalion also displayed various skills and techniques learnt during the training at the Yangyang Training Centre in South Sikkim and Pangthang Training Camp in East Sikkim. The CM also witnessed various physical exercises presented by the trainees including the pipe band and brass band show of Sikkim Police.
The CM presented cash prizes and a token to the best performers during their training session. The awardees are Parade Commander who won a cash prize of Rs 15,000 (Fifteen Thousand) only and a token and cash prize of Rs. 11,000 (Eleven Thousand) for 2nd in charge.
Rs 15,000 each was awarded for all-round performer from both Police Training Centers. The best performer recruit constable was awarded with Rs 10,000.
The best performers from the Yangyang Training Center are Santosh Gajmer for best outdoor performance, Norgay P Bhutia for best Indoor performer, Topgay Lepcha for best Firing performer, Ladangpa Bhutia for best cross country marathon performance and Rizinal Chhetri for all round performance.
Similarly, from Pangthang Police Training Centre, Kamal Kr. Sharma for best outdoor performance, Manoj Kr. Chhettri for best indoor performance, Lakpa Pempa Bhutia for best Firing performance, Tika Ram Chhettri for best cross country marathon performance, and Kiran Rai for best all round performance.
While addressing the function, the Chief Minister congratulated the new recruits and advised them to do their duties as honest police personnel. He also advised them to serve the country and state with dedication and responsibility.
He informed them that they are getting a handsome salary from the state government as compared to other parts of the country. The CM also informed about the programmes and schemes including women’s empowerment, compassionate ground service, fifty-fifty percent in the ground of promotion and new recruitments, health service, education, tourism, food and rural based programmes of the government which are directly beneficial to the poor people of Sikkim.
He urged the people of Sikkim to build a healthy, peaceful and economically sound state. He also urged people to fight against corruption present everywhere in the society in a multi dimensional form.
Earlier, Director General of Sikkim Police, Jasbir Singh presented a brief introduction, development, functions and duties of the Police Force and also delivered the welcome speech.
The function was also attended by Speaker SLA, KT Gyaltsen, Dy Chairman, State Planing Commission, SM Limboo, Cabinet Ministers, Advisors, MLAs, Mayor and Dy. Mayor GMC, Chairman, Chief Secretary, Secretaries and HODs, Government Officials, parents and families of Police personnel and the employees and officers of the Police Department.
