JORETHANG, 20 June: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today commented that developmental works sanctioned in the area still remained incomplete even though 90% of the bills have been cleared. Taking serious note of the issue, he directed the concerned department to enquire into the matter thoroughly and suspend all officers found to be involved in sanctioning “false bills” against works which had been sanctioned for the people, but not delivered on ground.
He was speaking to the people of Chota-Samdong under Soreng-Chakung constituency on his first halt of the 19th day of his village-to-village tour today.
The CM mentioned that many developmental works were sanctioned for the area but not enough developmental has taken place because the people were “suppressed and living in a fear psychosis” there.
He observed that many government-sponsored schemes sanctioned for the people had not reached the targeted beneficiaries because and urged the people that even as the government enquires into the denial and pilferage, they too should stand up and confront attempts to sideline their interests.
Next, he interacted with the people of Khani-Sherbong on his second halt of the day and then at Zoom Secondary School, the CM was felicitated by the Educated Unemployed Women’s Cooperative Society for having taken personal interest in promoting the cooperative movement in Sikkim.
The CM also conveyed his congratulations to Aprajita Rai [who hails from Zoon] for having made Zoom and Sikkim proud with her achievement of clearing the UPSC exams. He urged the students to take inspiration from her hard work.
Addressing the students, he mentioned that it was only in Sikkim that the government has made such extensive arrangements for their welfare and to support their dreams. He invited them to take full benefit of these opportunities and pursue all their academic ambitions in the confident knowledge that the State would support them all the way.
He mentioned that the shenanigans of “bad politicians” had earned disrepute to politics itself and commented that if the generation still in school groomed itself well and grew into responsible citizens, then the political arena would gain from their idealism and democracy served better.
