NAMCHI, 18 Sept: Two water purifiers - at Central Park and Bhanjyang Road here – were dedicated to the people in the memory of victims of the 2011 earthquake. The units were inaugurated by the Namchi-Singithang MLA, Binod Rai.
Speaking at the function organized by the Namchi Municipal Council [NMC], he urged residents to be prepared to tackle such disasters and acquaint themselves with disaster management and prevention. He further spoke on the Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojna and appealed to the people to cooperate with the line department during the survey work. Mr Rai urged the people to take proper care of the new asset provided to them and also asked the line departments NMC and UD&HD to ensure proper maintenance of the water purifiers.
NMC Chairman, BT Tamang informed that the two water purifiers installed in Namchi bazaar by the NMC were purchased under BRGF (Backward Region Grant Fund) of the Central Government at Rs 7.32 lakh from Eureka Forbes Aquaguard Company.
Each water purifier has water storage capacity of 120 lts. and has three taps with one tap giving normal purified water and other two giving chilled purified water and a water mug is attached to the purifier for drinking water.
One purifier tank is placed in the Central Park area and the other at the entry point of Bhanjyang road. The water purifiers have helped not only the local visitors but the tourists and shopkeepers as well, he added.
Others present were NMC Vice Chairman NH Ansari, Chairman Tea-board Gagan Rai, ADC South AP Rai, CMO South Dr Bimal Rai, Gram Vikash Adhikari Bimal Rai, HRDD Joint Director MK Rai, NMC councilor, Official dignitaries and local gentry. Earlier Tarkeshwar Prasad NMC councilor welcomed the gathering.
