GANGTOK, 18 Sept [IPR]: The result of the bye-election for two Panchayat wards in East District was declared at the conference hall of District Administrative Centre, Sichey on Tuesday.
The counting was done in the presence of Additional District Collector and the Returning officer Gloria Namchu [SDM-Gangtok] and the Joint Secretary, State Election Commission who was also present as the Election Observer. After completing the counting procedure the Returning Officer announced the name of the winners and also gave away the Certificate of Election to the winning candidates.
The bye-election of two panchayat wards was conducted by the State Election Commission on 16 September 2013. The election was held for Aritar ward under Simik Linzey Gram Panchayat Unit of Khamdong Constituency where Indra Kumari Sapkota won uncontested.
In another ward, the election was held for Budang Ward under Budang Kameray Gram Panchayat Unit of Rhenock Constituency wherein Karma Gyurmey Bhutia won the election with 80 votes against Palden Sherpa who got 56 votes.
