GANGTOK, 16 Sept: Pangthang Junior High School beat Taktse International School by a solitary goal today to lift the 3rd Black Eagle Under-14 Football Tournament here at the Sikkim Armed Police Lower Ground at Pangthang. The tournament, which started on 19 August, was organized by SAP.
A total of 8 schools - Enlighten Academy [Bojoghari], Pangthang Primary School, Bojoghari Secondary School, Taktse International School, Kyi-de-Khang School, Penlong Secondary School, North Point Academy [Bojoghari], and Samdong Senior Secondary School, had participated in the tourney.
On the final day of the tournament, the winning team was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 along with trophy and certificates while the runners-up team [Taktse International School] was awarded with cash prize of Rs. 2,000. Kyi-De-Khang School came in third and was awarded with cash prize of Rs 1,000.
Additional Director General of Police SD Negi was present as the chief guest.
“I am impressed with the performances by such young footballers. Those who couldn’t win should not lose heart. Winning and losing is part of the game,” he said.
He also thanked all the faculty members of the respective schools for their participation.
The function was also attended by the Principal, Taktse International School, Phuntsok L. Denzongpa, Commandant SAP, Tashi Wangyal, and Deputy Commandant SAP, Rapden Bhutia.
SAP is also organizing the 2nd Inter Branch Volleyball Tournament here at SAP Camp, which began today.
A total of 08 teams [various branches of Sikkim Police] are participating in the tourney. Commandant SAP, Tashi Wangyal informed that the final match will take place on 27 September which falls on the raising day [SAP anniversary] here at the same venue. Speaking on the under-14 football tournament, he said that the tourney is organized for children of the area every year with the aim to inculcate the habit of healthy living.
The first match of the volleyball tournament was played between Communication Branch against 3rd IRBn today.
