NAMCHI, 13 Sept: Following spread of dengue in low lying areas of Sikkim the Health Department along with the District Administration has launched preparedness and pro-active measures in different towns and bazaars in order to prevent dengue from spreading in the state.
The department is undertaking activities like fogging, IEC, DTT powder spraying in bazaar areas of Jorethang and Melli.
A team carried out fogging and other activities in Namchi bazaar, Majhitar, Pipaley, Baiguney and other places today. The team also gave instructions to keep the surroundings clean and undertake regular waste disposal to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.
CMO Namchi District Hospital, Dr. Bimal Rai informed that they have started taking preventive measures in South and West Districts. A total of 22 dengue cases have been reported in South Sikkim and 5 patients had been admitted in Namchi District Hospital. He informed that in most cases, the person infected with the dengue virus was a frequent visitor of dengue-susceptible areas like Melli, Jorethang, Majhitar, Singtam, Rangpo and other parts of East and West Sikkim.
He added that the health department has already taken all the preventive measures. Moreover, doctors at the district hospitals have been put on alert and all necessary facilities have been put in place, he said.
He also appealed to all NGOs and educational institutions to spread awareness on precautions and preventive measures to be taken by the people.
