GANGTOK,
05 Feb: Sixty-day Group Approach training on handloom weaving was inaugurated
by Pipon of Lachen, Chyo Bandu Lachenpa on 04 February. The training
was held under Integrated Handloom Development Scheme sponsored by the office
of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government
of India and implemented by Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom,
Government of Sikkim.
A
press release informs that twenty handloom weavers of Lachen, North Sikkim
participated in the training. The weavers were selected in consultation with
the Pipons of Lachen while the Master Trainer, Bimal Kanti Das, was brought from
Kolkata in consultation with Weavers Service Centre (Kolkata), Ministry of
Textiles, Government of India.
The
aim of the training is to help the weavers get acquainted with new modernized
frame looms in different counts of yarn with new design and make them capable
of earning higher income, the release informs.
The
chief guest Chyo Bandu Lachenpa was very impressed with the training and
thanked the department for organizing such training in their area, the release
mentions.
Also
present at the inaugural function were Deputy Director (North), D.H.H., Mangan,
Tshering Dorjee Bhutia, public of Lachen and local gentry.
