State shortlists handloom and handicraft items for National Award 2012


GANGTOK, 06 Feb: The selection of Handloom and Handicraft items for National Award 2012 was convened in the CDAC centre of D.H.H. complex today. Three Handloom and Handicraft items were selected by the Selection Committee to be sent to New Delhi for selection of National Award 2012.
Director, D.H.H., Ganga D. Pradhan was present as the chief guest along with Assistant Director, MSEC, office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, PC Bairagi, who is the Convenor for National Award Selection 2012 for the state of Sikkim.
An official release informs that this is an annual feature of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and during the programme Mr Bairagi informed about the award and benefits like cash prize, Merit Certificate and old age transferable pension for spouse from the age of 60 years.
The chief guest, Ganga D. Pradhan while addressing the gathering urged for mass participation from weavers and artisans in the coming years and thanked all Members of the Selection Committee for National Award 2012.

Also present today were Project Officer, SRDA, Member, SW Dorjee, General Librarian, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Deorali, Member, Tenzing Samphel, Deputy Director (Training), DHH, Member, Chozang Tshering Lepcha, Deputy Director (Project), SHHDC Ltd., Member, PR Ghimeray, Assistant Director (Production), Pema Sangmo, Investigator, MSEC, Deorali, DK Khawas and other officials of DHH.
