Sikkim Police Band to participate in All-India Police Band Competition


GANGTOK, 07 Dec: A 33-member Sikkim Police Band will be participating in the 12th All-India Police Band Competition 2011 to be held at Gurgaon in Haryana from 12 to 16 December. The team left for Haryana on Wednesday. This is only the third time that the Sikkim Police Brass Band is participating in a national-level competition, which has participants from different State Police Forces and Central Armed Police Forces.

A press release issued by Senior Superintendent of Police [Lines], Prawin Gurung, mentions that the performance of Sikkim Police Band in the last two competitions have been highly encouraging.
It further states that the other purpose to participate in the National Level event is to provide proper exposure to each and every member of the band to further enhance their professional quality.
The band will be led by the Band Master, NK Purna Bahadur Subba, who has recently completed a three years rigorous course on Potential Band Master from National Institute of Police Band. The team has also been accompanied by Inspector, Tseten Tashi as the Team Manager.
It is mentioned that the Sikkim Police Band comprising of a Brass Band and Pipe Band is an integral part of the Sikkim Police force i.e. Civil Police, Sikkim Armed Police and three India Reserve Battalions. Traditionally the daily activities of the force begin with a bugle call (part of band) and ends with the same. Sikkim Police Band is an ornament of the force which has been participating and adding glory to all important State and National events.
The department is also putting all out efforts to make the Pipe band also a highly professional Band and is planning to prepare for the next National level competition, the release adds.
