Child Rights Commission visits STNM Hospital


GANGTOK, 04 Dec: Chairperson, Manita Pradhan, along with members Yangchen Ladingpa and Nimchoki Bhutia of Sikkim Commission for Protection of Child Rights visited the children’s ward of STNM Hospital on 02 Dec and interacted with parents of the recuperating children in the age group of 2 months to 9 years admitted in the hospital, informs a press release.

The Commission interacted with the concerned staff who were on duty regarding the prevalent illness, medicine, cleanliness, procurement of medicine for patients and the upkeep of the children’s ward of the STNM Hospital and had a talk with the lactating mothers (patients) as well, the release informs.
The commission also visited the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit where they were briefed by the staff nurses on the handling, caring and monitoring of new born babies kept in incubators.
The commission also visited the maternity ward of STNM hospital also and had a detailed interaction with gynecologists, Dr. Rapgyal Bhutia and Dr. Paras Karki who were both present in the ward at the time.
The commission took note of the incident involving a lady under labour pain who was referred by the Namchi District Hospital and died on the way to Gangtok STNM Hospital and urged all doctors to look into such matters seriously and extend proper medical advice on time so as to avoid such unfortunate incidents, the release mentions.
The commission will be submitting the observation and recommendation to the concerned authority.
