GANGTOK, 17 Oct: The Lumsey Gram Vikash Samiti of 5th Mile Tadong convened a meeting today under the chairmanship of its president, Shamsher Subba, and attended by its office bearers and other members.
The meeting started on a somber note by offering prayers for the lives lost to the 18 Sept Earthquake, informs a press release issued by the organisation’s general secretary.
As a gesture of support and solidarity towards the government’s efforts at relief and rehabilitation, the association resolved to contribute Rs. 10,000 towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, the release informs.
The meeting also agreed that there was no correlation between the earthquake and the developmental projects underway in the State and appealed to members not to pay heed to “unscientific statements or propaganda” regarding earthquake, which, the release contends, are “directed to tarnish the goodwill and reputation of the government”.
The meeting also condemned the statements made earlier by some irresponsible persons from Lumsey linking the earthquake to hydel projects.
The members were further cautioned against issuing statements unless supported by facts and figures, the release informs.
