NAMCHI, 24 Nov: A 3-day training on Village Water Security Planning (VWSP) under National Rural Drinking Water Programme organised at Gram Vikas Kendra, Temi Tarku, for members of Village Water & Sanitation Committees (VWSC) of 5 GPUs concluded on Saturday.
The training programme was organised by Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), SIRD Karfectar, with a view to build capacity of the members of VWSCs who are entrusted to prepare Water Security Plans, to undertake operation and maintenance of all rural drinking water supply and work out a plan for sustainability of the existing water resources of their respective areas.Almost 40 participants comprising of members of VWSC of Temi, Tarku-Tanak, Namphing, Bermiok-Tokal and Ben-Namprick GPU participated in the training held from 21-23 November.
The training was conducted by Field Facilitator of the GVK, RoshanKaushik and his counterpart from Ravangla, UdayChamling who trained the participants on preparingthe Village Water Security Plan and urged the participants to monitor their local sources round-the-year to undertake spring-shed development programme, if necessary.
The participants were taken to Devithaney Source at Aifaltar for physical observation of various aspects of the source and water supply status for designing a correct plan. Other than preparation of VWSP, Dhara-Vikas, challenges in water quality, sustainability of spring related issues were discussed. The participants of the training also prepared action plans to survey the water supply scheme and sources within the GPU and alternative sources out of the GPU which are in need of repair, augmentation, up-gradation and artificial intervention to solve sustainability issue.
The participants were also informed about the use of electro-chlorinator to ensure safe and bacteria free water. The valedictoryprogramme was chaired by President of Temi GPU,TB Gurung.
