Golay promises national OBC status for left out communities

GANGTOK, 24 Nov: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha [SKM] held its second largest meeting at Mangalbaria bazaar under Soreng-Chakung constituency where its leader PS Tamang [Golay] urged party workers to shoulder their responsibilities in the upcoming assembly elections next year.
As per an SKM release, while addressing the party workers, Mr. Tamang reiterated that he has joined SKM to “transform and protect” Sikkim from what he sees as the misrule of the Chamling government.
Mr. Tamang thanked the people from Chakung-Soreng constituency for consistently supporting him for the last 20 years and also expressed hope that their support would continue in the days to come.
He also assured the people of Chakung-Soreng of more development if voted to power in the next assembly election. Mr. Tamang further stated that SKM will ensure the inclusion of Newar, Chettri and Bahun in the OBC category at the national level as against the hollow assurances of the Chamling government.
Mr. Tamang also inaugurated the zonal party office at Mangalbaria. The meeting also passed four resolutions; Limboo-Tamang seat reservation in Sikkim Legislative Assembly; special northeast allowances to government employees for which the state employees are debarred even after the 5th State Pay Commission’s recommendation; inclusion of left out communities in OBC category and inclusion of all the Sikkimese communities in the Scheduled Tribe category.
During the meeting, former SDF publicity secretary Prem Karki, Hamro Prajshakti’s Pabitra Bhandari, former Minister Taraman Rai along with 737 people joined SKM, the release claims. These leaders also addressed the meeting today.
