GANGTOK, 24 Nov: Three-day training for Village Water & Sanitation Committee [VWSC] of seven Gram Panchayat Units under Gangtok Gram Vikas Kendra.
A press release informs that the VWSCs of Rongay-Tathangchen and Kopibari-Shyari GPUs were trained from 11 to 13 November at Kopibari-Shyari Gram Prashasan Kendra. The similar committees of Bhusuk-Naitam, Nandok-Saramsa and Assam-Lingzey GPUs were trained from 14 to 16 November at Nandok-Saramsa Gram Prashasan Kendra. For committees of Gnathang and Kyongnosla GPUs training was conducted from 21 to 23 November at Gangtok. It is to be mentioned here that Village Water & Sanitation Committees (VWSCs) were constituted in each GPU in 2009 in Sikkim.
The said training was organised by CCDU, SIRD, Karfectar and was coordinated by Field Facilitator, Gangtok, Rashika Rai with the support of FF, Parkha and FF, Kabi as resource persons.
On the first day, there were deliberations on water security planning for theoretical knowledge, providing study materials etc followed by field visits for practical understanding on the second day. On the third day, presentations were given on sample action plans by different groups.
The valedictory programme was organised at the conference hall of Zilla Panchayat Office, East. The programme was attended by ADC(Dev), Dr AB Karki, Zilla Panchayat Members of different territorial constituencies, East, DE, Zilla Panchayat, East, Yangchen Bhutia, Dy. Director, SIRD along with Members of all these Gram Panchayats.
Speaking on the occasion Dr AB Karki expressed happiness over the training and reacting to various problems put forth by members of GP, ZP & VWSC he suggested that the committees should prepare genuine and viable plans and get them passed in gram sabhas so that priority can be given to these during preparation of district plan. He also brought to the notice of all concerned that registration of VWSCs is mandatory as per norms and asked all to complete formalities immediately.
Dy. Dir., SIRD spoke on how water security plans are to be prepared and explained its importance to VWSCs in the beginning and end of the training.
