Panchayat members collecting Rs.400 as application for earthquake relief alleges Congress

GANGTOK, 06 Nov: Accusations and suspicions over discrimination in the earthquake relief distribution still continue with the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee now accusing panchayat members of Khani Serbung- Suntoley Gram panchayat in West Sikkim of charges of corruption.
A press release issued by the SPCC alleges that the panchayat members of this particular GPU have been realizing Rs. 400 from each of the victims “…as cost of application form for obtaining relief”. The SPCC goes on to report that the same panchayats had “…collected signed revenue stamps from the victims without disbursing the relief amount to the victims numbering 200 persons”. According to the report with the SPCC, as per the press release, the DC, West was unable to disburse the relief to these victims due to non receipt of funds by the district collectorate.
The SPCC has demanded immediate verification into the matter and relief for the victims not only for the victims of the above mentioned GPU but victims all over the state who have been made subject to such irregularities in the relief disbursement process. The release reminds that the party president, NB Bhandari had visited the entire state during which such irregularities had been reported by the victims.
